They just knew that sometimes they were Abby, that remembering things that happened while they were Abby was like reading a story, ill-conceived and more often than not a picture book, scant on the details. They imagined it must feel similar to Abby, too: perhaps she remembered what happened to her as Soot was akin to remembering a dream.
