So, despite everyone from Shelter Insurance to the guy who's painting the house has tried to dick with us or outright fuck us over, but things are finally getting done. Having talked it over a good deal with my mom, who went through a housefire shortly before I was born, it really sounds like a good portion of it is due to our status as college students. Because, you know, since I'm working to become a productive member of society, I'm clearly just as irresponsible as those who come here to drink. Of course.

Anyhow, the recent spate of problems has been with the painter nearly refusing to paint our house, the hotel nearly trying to charge me $400 (Shelter refused to pay for it, so the owner's paying out of pocket), and very nearly not finding a place to keep the cat. Despite all of this, there have been a few friendly faces. Barb from Kevco really -is- working with us, despite her awkward position as manager (not even landlord), and has offered to help Ryan get out of the lease at the end of may instead of the end of july (though Shannon and I will have to stay, it looks like); they worked out the hotel rate, too, so that they'll pay, and take it out of the owner's rent payments. Also, at the suggestion of an Alley Cat employee, I found a very nice vet office that is willing to board Sera for $5 a day.
